Our publishers call this website a companion to the printed and digital versions of our book. If you are learning about User Experience Design (UX) there are a few good reasons to sign-up and hear when new content is added.

Before reading our book you should know that this is the second edition. The first edition was published in 2014 specifically as a text for a university module in Design and Media Production. At that time most students had little understanding of UX approaches to design except perhaps those undertaking HCI (human computer interaction) studies. There was a some recognition of usability and thanks to Google, widespread agreement that SEO (search engine optimisation) would lead to untold wealth.

Our approach to User Experience Design is fundamental and open. It is not hampered by considering just a few elements of a design production process. It looks to discover the wider experience of the people who designers expect to use their work. It is a gentle manifesto that encourages new designers to develop empathic thinking, recognise when user error is really a design fail and to engage in genuine user research.

Think of it as a creative challenge. Make people happy.
